Catalyst carrier, also known as carrier, is one of the components of supported catalysts. It is the skeleton of the active components of the catalyst, supports the active components, disperses the active components, and increases the strength of the catalyst. However, the carrier itself generally does not have catalytic activity.
Most carriers are products in the catalyst industry, commonly used are alumina carriers, silica gel carriers, activated carbon carriers, and some natural products such as pumice, diatomaceous earth, etc. The "active component name-carrier name" is often used to indicate the composition of the supported catalyst, such as nickel-alumina catalyst for hydrogenation and vanadium oxide-diatomaceous earth catalyst for oxidation.
